Vol. 253 No. 2

Independent Reporting Commission Bill 2017: Committee and Remaining Stages

Sections 1 to 12, inclusive, agreed to.
Schedule agreed to.
Title agreed to.
Bill reported without amendment and received for final consideration.
Question proposed: "That the Bill do now pass."

We have had a long day. In the first instance, I acknowledge an earlier proposal by Senator Bacik that we deal with Committee and Remaining Stages here today, which was agreed by Senator Ó Donnghaile and others. I thank everyone for facilitating the passage of this important legislation. I do not wish to repeat what was said in the debate we had earlier. I acknowledge the cross-party support for the Bill. I look forward to the Bill being submitted to the President for signature. It is legislation that will be acknowledged, particularly in Northern Ireland, but also in the context of our all-island society. I also thank the Acting Chairman for facilitating this.

I thank the Minister for his patience. We had a long day. This is important legislation. More often than not there is great co-operation and Senator Bacik's proposal was very helpful. On behalf of Fine Gael I thank Senator Bacik and other colleagues.

I thank Senator Conway.

I happened to be in the Chair earlier for the Second Stage debate at which we agreed to facilitate the Leader. The Leader has now re-entered the Chamber. We should thank him for reordering the business to facilitate the Minister. It might have been a long day today, but it is better than having to come back tomorrow. I thank all Members. Maybe it is a sign that new politics is working after all.
