The Ceann Comhairle, Mr Seán Ó Fearghaíl, TD, is pleased to announce the establishment of an Irish-Spanish Parliamentary Friendship Group, chaired by him. Mr Marc MacSharry, TD, will act as Convenor to the Group.
The Ceann Comhairle said: “I am delighted that the strong and enduring links between Ireland and Spain are recognised formally at parliamentary level with the establishment of this Friendship Group in Leinster House. I am particularly pleased that Marc MacSharry, TD, has agreed to act as Convenor, a role which involves the day to day coordination of the Friendship Group’s activities. I know Marc will bring his customary energy and enthusiasm to this important role. The Ireland Spanish Parliamentary Friendship Group will serve as a valuable vehicle to develop links between our two countries which have had such long-standing historical and cultural links of friendship.”
The Ireland Spanish Parliamentary Friendship Group is the only formal Oireachtas group recognised by the Houses of the Oireachtas between the two countries, and serves to strength relations between the two countries at parliamentary level.
