22 May 2017, 16:14

A review of the performance of ComReg’s statutory functions and Strategy Statement 2017-2019 will be on the agenda of the Communications, Climate Action and Environment Committee tomorrow, Tuesday, 23 May 2017.

Appearing before the Committee are: Gerry Fahy, Chairperson; Jeremy Godfrey and Kevin O’Brien, Commissioners at ComReg.

Committee Chairman Hildegarde Naughton TD said: “ComReg is the statutory body responsible for the regulation of the telecommunications, radio communications and broadcasting transmission and the postal sector. The ability to communicate and connect, either through electronic communications or more traditional methods such as post, is central to how we live today whether it is for economic, commercial or social purposes. Tomorrow, we will meet with ComReg representatives to consider its functions in terms of its role and responsibility in encouraging innovation, promoting connectivity, facilitating competition and protecting consumers. We will also have an opportunity to review ComReg’s strategy for the communications sector. The Committee will be keen to discuss ComReg’s vision for the sector so that businesses and consumers will have access to high-quality, fast, reliable and affordable communications services.”

This meeting will take place at 5pm on Tuesday, 23 May 2017 in Committee Room 2, Leinster House. Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
