MEP’s from the island of Ireland to meet with the European Affairs Committee in Leinster House

The Joint Committee on European Union Affairs will tomorrow meet with a group of MEPs from across the Island of Ireland to discuss a range of issues under the Committee’s remit. Those expected to attend include Lynn Boylan (Sinn Féin), Mairead McGuinness, Vice-President of the European Parliament (Fine Gael), Martina Anderson (Sinn Féin), Luke 'Ming' Flanagan (Independent), Marian Harkin (Independent), Seán Kelly (Fine Gael) and Matt Carthy (Sinn Féin).

The meeting will commence at 2.00pm in Committee Room 1 tomorrow, Wednesday, 24 May 2017.

Committee Chairman, Michael Healy Rae TD, said “As a Committee, we welcome the opportunity to engage with this group of Members of the European Parliament representing the island of Ireland on a range of issues important to National and European interests. On the agenda will be the Brexit negotiations and how Ireland’s interests are being represented, how we can protect and grow the relationship between the European Parliament and Member State Parliaments, the future of the European Union and issues around social security and integration.”

“It is an essential part of our remit that we engage with our representatives in the European Parliament to facilitate two-way communication in order to ensure that Ireland is best represented and that the needs of the Irish people, across the island of Ireland, are kept to the fore of the European agenda.”
