Social Protection Committee to discuss pension scheme issues

14 Jun 2017, 13:51

The Committee on Social Protection will meet with representatives from the Pensions Authority, Pension Equality and Ibec tomorrow, Thursday, 15 June 2017 to discuss a number of issues in relation to pension schemes.

Committee Chairman John Curran said: “Pensions were a key issue prioritised in the Committee's work programme, and we have started hearings on the matter. Tomorrow, however, the Committee will deal with specific matters arising from its pre-legislative scrutiny of the Social Welfare and Pensions Bill 2017. The Pensions Authority and Ibec will talk to us about proposed changes to Defined Benefit schemes, and Pension Equality will address the Committee on the fact that retired LGBTI public servants cannot access a survivor pension for their same sex spouse because they could not marry that person before they retired.”

This Committee will meet at 10.30am in Committee Room 4 tomorrow, Thursday 15 June 2017.

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
