IFAC to brief the Budgetary Oversight Committee on the findings of their most recent Fiscal Assessment Report

The Committee on Budgetary Oversight will tomorrow meet with representatives of the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council to examine the findings of their most recent Fiscal Assessment Report.

The meeting will commence at 4.00pm in Committee Room 3 tomorrow, Tuesday, 20 June 2017.

Committee Chairman, John Paul Phelan TD, said “This latest Fiscal Assessment Report indicates that economic recovery is expected to continue in the short-term, at least, but that there are existing risks that could possibly lead to an overheated economy if not managed in a prudent manner. It also points to the benefit of the new budgetary framework and we welcome the opportunity to hear more from Mr Seamus Coffey, Chair of the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council (IFAC), and his officials. ”

“This report provides an assessment of the fiscal stance of Government, examines macroeconomic forecasts, analyses budgetary forecasts and also looks at our compliance with fiscal rules. Members welcome this timely briefing as the Committee move to finalise their report ahead of Budget 2018.”

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

The Fiscal Assessment Report can be read here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
