26 Jun 2017, 14:15

The Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands will continue its hearings on the oral Irish Junior Certificate at its meeting tomorrow, Tuesday 27 June 2017.

Chairperson of the Committee Catherine Connolly TD: “The Committee agreed to invite Richard Bruton TD, Minister for Education and Skills and the Secretary General of the Department to speak with the Committee on the topic ‘The Oral Examination as a central part of the Junior Certificate’ at its meeting tomorrow, 27 June 2017.

“While officials from the Department will attend to discuss the issue, the Minister will not be in attendance. The Committee is very disappointed that the Minister will not be attending this meeting.

“At our meeting tomorrow, we will be asking the Minister for Education and Skills to suspend the changes that have been arranged in relation to the Junior Certificate and the oral examinations until the Committee has had an opportunity to review this issue and to present its opinion on the arrangements.”

This meeting will take place in Committee Room 4 at 5pm tomorrow, Tuesday, 27 June 2017.
