Vol. 253 No. 2

Business of Seanad

Before we leave, it is totally against the rules of this House to take photographs in the Chamber.

Last year, a senior Minister had to come back because a member of the public and a journalist reported that this was happening in this House. I have seen it happen previously. The taking of photographs is totally prohibited. If it happens again, I will suspend the House for the rest of the night. It is childish and totally against protocol.

A Chathaoirligh, you should name and shame the people who are breaking protocol.

I will not. It is totally against all protocol to take photographs in this Chamber. It is bad enough to have mobile phones in here.

We are not looking our best either.

I vote we suspend the House because of bad manners.

I call the Committee Stage of the Independent Reporting Commission Bill.

On a point of order, there may have been a misunderstanding with that photograph.

There was not a misunderstanding.

It is not misunderstanding when a Senator was making a phone call during an actual vote.

I have made my point. Taking photographs that are tweeted and used on Facebook and all that is totally against the protocol of the House. It brings down the level of this Chamber.

It could not go any further.

I wrote to everybody last year; I will do it again in September. I do not want to make an issue of it. Taking photographs in the Chamber is absolutely against every protocol and Standing Orders of this Chamber.
