The Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs contributes to balanced regional development and the economic, social and cultural enhancement of rural Ireland and the Gaeltacht, as well as promoting the arts. It has a keen interest in policy formation and implementation as it relates to our national and cultural heritage, regional development and the sustainability of rural and Gaeltacht communities.

The committee's name was changed from the Joint Committee on Regional Development, Rural Affairs, Arts and the Gaeltacht on Thursday, 29 September 2016.
