Vol. 256 No. 6

Business of Seanad

I have notice from Senator Aodhán Ó Ríordáin that, on the motion for the Commencement of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Skills to consider removing the cap on enrolment in Educate Together schools in Trim, County Meath, New Ross, County Wexford, Tuam, County Galway, and Tramore, County Waterford.

I have also received notice from Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Finance to consider introducing legislation to provide for a separation between the commercial and retail arms of all regulated financial institutions operating in Ireland to protect retail customers against the effects of future bank failures.

I have also received notice from Senator Tim Lombard of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government to outline the expected timeframe for the introduction of legislation to give effect to the proposed new local authority structures in Cork city and county.

I have also received notice from Senator Maura Hopkins of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to provide an update on the provision of increased resources for the ambulance service in County Roscommon to allow for the full operation of the ambulance base at Loughglynn.

Of the matters raised by the Senators that are suitable for discussion, I have selected those of Senators Ó Ríordáin and Ó Domhnaill and they will be taken now. Senator Lombard was selected but subsequently withdrew his matter. I regret that I have had to rule out of order the matter submitted by Senator Hopkins on the basis that it is a repeat of a matter taken on 8 November 2017.
