The Committee on Justice and Equality has completed its pre-legislative scrutiny of the General Scheme of the Data Protection Bill and has published its recommendations in a new report.

The report deals with issues including the structure of data protection law, children’s rights and proposed sanctions for breaches of data protection law.

As part of its consideration of the proposed Bill, the committee met representatives of the Department of Justice and Equality, the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner and Digital Rights Ireland as well as Denis Kelleher, barrister-at-law, and Dr Geoffrey Shannon, special rapporteur on child protection.
