Petitions Committee to examine petitions on Junior Cert exam, freedom of speech and fishing schemes

5 Dec 2017, 15:26

The Joint Committee on Public Petitions will meet tomorrow at 1.30pm in Committee Room 1, Leinster House.

The Committee will examine the following petitions:

Petition No P000028/17: Stop Bill restricting Freedom of Speech on the Internet/Social Media: The petitioner is opposing a specific piece of legislation, the ‘Contempt of Court Bill’ [PMB] (Number 117 of 2017) 2017. The rationale behind the petitioner’s opposition is that it is an attack on peoples’ freedom of speech on social media platforms.

Petition No P00021/16: Investigate circumstances relating to flawed implementation of fishing legislation: Relates to the administration of two schemes run by the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine.

Petition No P000013/17: Make the new English Junior Cert Exam fairer by adding thirty extra minutes: The petitioner is seeking to have an additional thirty minutes added to the higher level English examination for the Junior Cycle examination which was scheduled to take place in June 2017.
