EU Affairs Committee to resume discussion on the Future of Europe

12 Dec 2017, 15:45

The Joint Committee on European Union Affairs will sit tomorrow at 2pm in Committee Room 1, Leinster House.

The agenda for the meeting is as follows:

Session A: 2.00 p.m. The Future of Europe (resumed) [Ms. Fiona O’Donovan, Policy and Research Assistant, Disability Federation of Ireland]

Session B: 3.00 p.m. The Future of Europe (resumed) with a focus on Education and Culture [Mr Tibor Navracsics, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport]

Speaking in advance of the meeting, Committee Chair, Michael Healy-Rae TD said, “The Disability Federation of Ireland (DFI) will brief us on role which the EU plays in the lives of people with disabilities across the EU and within Ireland. Freedom of movement is one of the four basic freedoms under the EU Treaties, however, there are still too many goods and services in the EU internal market which are not fully accessible to persons with disabilities.”

“In the second part of our meeting, the European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport will engage with the Committee on the vision for a European Education Area. This will hopefully part of the solution to get more people into jobs, respond better to the European economy's skills needs and strengthen Europe's resilience in the face of global uncertainty.”
