29 Jan 2018, 10:16

The Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment will receive a climate progress update at its meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 when it will hear from Officials from the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment; Professor John Fitzgerald from the Climate Change Advisory Council; representatives from Irish Farmers Association; representatives from Stop Climate Chaos; and Professor John Sweeney.

Committee Chair Hildegarde Naughton said: “Tomorrow, we will continue our discussion on Ireland's progress on meeting Climate Action Targets. Among the particular areas we will focus on are the National Climate Change Dialogue – opening up the national power grid to community and non-profit, renewable energy providers; Ireland’s emissions targets as set by the European Union in the context of the Paris Agreement; and the National Mitigation Plan. At our meeting we will hear from a number of State organisations and stakeholders to get their perspectives on these issues in particular and on Ireland’s efforts to meet its climate action targets in general.”

This meeting will start at 5pm, tomorrow, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 in Committee Room 2, Leinster House. Committee proceedings can be viewed live here and can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
