Foreign Affairs Committee to discuss British Irish Chamber’s Brexit trade plan

31 Jan 2018, 14:19

The President of the British Irish Chamber of Commerce, Mr Eoin O’Neill, will appear before the Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs, Trade and Defence tomorrow at 10am in Committee Room 1.

Mr O’Neill and Ms Katie Daughen, Head of Brexit Policy with the Chamber, and lead author of the paper; How to make Brexit work for all: Big Principles for a Strong Brexit Partnership will brief the Committee on the Chamber’s vision for a possible trade framework for the UK and the EU post-Brexit.

Foreign Affairs Committee Chair, Brendan Smith said today, “The British Irish Chamber of Commerce protects and works to increase trade between the UK and Ireland.  Tomorrow the Committee will engage with the Chamber on its proposals for mitigating the effects of Brexit on trade, while remaining realistic about the transformed political landscape. The document we will discuss tomorrow is described by the Chamber as a business response to a political problem. As legislators work to find a solution that protects the open border on the island, as well as increasing trade, the Committee is keen to engage with our witnesses on practical solutions to a potentially large problem for business and trade.”
