Communications Climate Action & Environment Committee to focus on National Broadband Plan

7 Feb 2018, 09:57

The National Broadband Plan will be on the agenda of the Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment when it meets with the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment Denis Naughten, TD on Thursday, 8 February 2018.

Committee Chair Hildegarde Naughton said: “Eir’s recent decision to withdraw its bid for the national rural broadband scheme is an issue of serious concern. It leaves just one company, Enet, bidding for the contract. As well as the uncertainty generated over the process and the State’s plans for rolling out fibre and connecting homes and businesses in rural Ireland, questions  also remain over whether taxpayers get the best value for money in the process. Tomorrow, we will meet with Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment Denis Naughten to discuss the future of the plan.”

This meeting will start at 2.45pm, tomorrow, Thursday, 8 February 2018 in Committee Room 4, Leinster House.

Before the Joint Committee meets, the Select Committee will meet at 2pm to discuss a Dáil Motion with the Minister in relation to the terms of the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer.
