Justice & Equality Committee to continue hearings on Garda homicide statistics

6 Mar 2018, 14:19

The Joint Committee on Justice and Equality will resume its hearings on issues concerning Garda Homicide statistics at its meeting on Wednesday 7 March 2018.

Committee Chairman Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin, TD, said: “Tomorrow, members of An Garda Síochána Analysis Service will attend the Committee meeting. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss issues surrounding the recording and classification of Garda homicide figures, including the review being conducted by An Garda Síochána into the classification of homicides. Concerns have been raised about the accuracy of homicide figures recorded by An Garda Síochána which has the potential to damage the reputation of the police service.
It is important that this issue is addressed in a clear and transparent manner in order for the public to have confidence in An Garda Síochána.”

The meeting will take place at 9am in Committee Room 2, Leinster House.

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
