The Committee on Budgetary Oversight will meet with the Minister for Finance tomorrow, Wednesday, 18 April 2018 to receive a briefing on the Stability Programme Update.

Committee Chairman Colm Brophy said: “Each year, to comply with EU rules, Ireland is required to publish its SPU no later than April 30. The plans will include an update on the economic and fiscal outlook and are a key part of the EU’s surveillance of national fiscal policy.

The Stability Programme Update is a significant document as it sets out a three year forecast for the Irish economy, which must be endorsed by the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council, in accordance with its medium term budgetary framework The meeting will give the Committee an opportunity to scrutinise the Minister’s plans ahead of Budget 2019, and signals the start of the Committee’s ex-ante scrutiny of Budget 2019.”

This meeting will start in Committee Room 2, Leinster House at 3.45pm on Wednesday, 18 April 2018. Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.
