Children & Youth Affairs Committee invites Scouting Ireland to appear before them next week

19 Apr 2018, 14:27

The Joint Committee on Children and Youth Affairs has written to Scouting Ireland, asking them to appear before the Committee next week to discuss governance and child protection policy.

Committee Chair, Alan Farrell said today, “Generations of Irish families have been involved in the Scouts and in light of recent revelations in the area of child protection issues at Scouting Ireland, the Committee has decided to invite the organisation to attend our meeting next week."

“Scouting Ireland has roughly 40,000 juvenile members and the Committee wishes to ensure that the safety and welfare of every young member is prioritised. The Committee also wishes to discuss governance standards within Scouting Ireland and Committee Members will seek to ascertain how the organisation plans to overhaul their governance structure, if necessary, in order to ensure that transparency and the welfare of its members – juveniles and adults - remain the top priority.”
