The Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment has launched its report on the future funding of public service broadcasting. During the consultation process, the committee invited submissions from stakeholders and members of the public, held public hearings, ran an online questionnaire and held a focus group. It also held a forum in Dublin Castle with invited stakeholders.

Based on the evidence it gathered, the committee makes several recommendations in the report. It recommends that responsibility for the TV licence fee collection be handed to the Revenue Commissioners and that every household in the State be charged. It also recommended public service broadcasters be permitted to charge retransmission fees to satellite, cable and Internet service providers.

While researching the issues related to the future funding of public service broadcasting, the committee also carried out pre-legislative scrutiny of the general scheme of the broadcasting (amendment) Bill 2017.
