A portrait of all 53 female Members of Dáil and Seanad Éireann was presented in Leinster House today.
The portrait, by acclaimed artist Noel Murphy, also includes Countess de Markievicz, drawing a connection between the first woman elected to parliament and today’s women. The Ceann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann, Seán Ó Fearghaíl, accepted the portrait on behalf of the Houses of the Oireachtas.
The portrait was commissioned as part of the Vótáil 100 commemoration of the centenary of women’s suffrage. A documentary about the making of the painting will be released soon.
