Housing Committee to resume focus on effect of short term lettings on housing and the rental market

27 Meith 2017, 11:50

The Joint Committee on Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government will meet tomorrow at 1.30pm in Committee Room 1, Leinster House.

The Committee will resume its analysis of the impact of short term lettings on the housing and rental market

Session A: Dr. Ronan Lyons, Assistant Professor of Economics, Trinity College Dublin and representatives from Threshold

Session B: Representatives from Airbnb

Committee Chairperson, Maria Bailey TD, said: “Tomorrow we will return to our examination of the impact of short term letting with a particular emphasis on how Air BnB affects the rental market. It has been alleged that the ‘Air BnB effect’ is further reducing the supply of rental properties for people living in Dublin. Our meeting tomorrow will begin with a session where Threshold and Dr Ronan Lyons will address us on how they think any negative effects of short term letting can be mitigated. In the second session of the day, representatives from Air BnB will brief the Committee on how they believe their presence in the market is a positive one which benefits local economies.”

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
