Committee on Sport agrees next stage in deliberations on Moran report

29 Lún 2017, 18:28

The Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport agreed a number of steps as to how it will proceed in its deliberations on the report by Justice Carroll Moran into the distribution of tickets for the Olympic Games.

Committee Chairman Deputy Fergus O’Dowd said: “The Committee has agreed to request the Minister to commission a further module of the (non-statutory) Inquiry reviewing the newly discovered and disclosed contracts up to and including the Winter Olympic Games.

It will also invite additional witnesses from Sport Ireland and the Olympic Council of Ireland to attend committee hearings.

The Committee has decided that the report by Justice Carroll Moran should be referred to the Director of Corporate Enforcement.

It will also request the Public Accounts Committee to look at certain issues around funding of Sport Ireland.

The Committee also agreed to contact the Department of Foreign Affairs to request an update on court proceedings in Brazil relating to the distribution of tickets for the Rio Olympic Games.

No decision was made on the issue of compellability to appear before the Committee in relation to former OCI president Pat Hickey. However, the Committee agreed that the former OCI president should be invited to appear before the Committee at the earliest possible opportunity.”
