4 DFómh 2017, 13:53

The Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs, Trade and Defence will meet tomorrow at 9am in Committee Room 1.

The agenda for the meeting is as follows:

Session 1: 9:00 a.m. Discussion on the Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade and Defence’s review of the Irish Aid Programme. [Secretary General, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Director General, Irish Aid]

Session 2: 10:45 a.m. Department of Defence and Defence Forces Strategy Statement 2017-2020.  [Secretary General, Department of Defence]

Committee Chair, Brendan Smith TD said, “The Government’s most recent Policy for International Development, One World One Future, was published in May 2013. The world is facing unprecedented challenges with the increasing number and scale of humanitarian crises, violent conflicts, conflict related migration flows, poverty and climate related crises. Tomorrow, we will engage with the Department on Ireland’s development aid objectives for the foreseeable future.”

“We will also meet with the Department of Defence to discuss the development of a new Strategy Statement for the Department and the Defence Forces for the period 2017 to 2020. The Strategy Statement will chart a way forward for the Department and the Defence Forces and we as a Committee welcome the opportunity to engage with the Secretary General on this important document.”
