Committee on the Future of Mental Health Care urges government to commit to significant investment in services

Committee Chairperson, Senator Joan Freeman, said, “As we wait for the announcement of Budget 2018, our Committee is urging the Government to significantly invest in mental health care services across Ireland. As the Joint Committee continues to finalise its work programme – which we hope to publish in the coming weeks – we remain acutely aware of the crisis facing the many people who grapple daily with mental health issues. Real assistance must be provided in the form of investment and service provision and the upcoming budget represents an opportunity for the Government to demonstrate its commitment to mental health care reform.”

The Committee will commence its public hearings on 19 October with Mr. Hugh Kane, Chairperson of the Oversight Group to oversee the next stages of the review of ‘A Vision for Change’.
