Housing Committee to scrutinise two pieces of Private Members Business

11 DFómh 2017, 12:06

The Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government will meet tomorrow to commence scrutiny of two Private Members Bills (PMBs).

The meeting will be divided into two sessions for each PMB:

Session A: Detailed Scrutiny of the Electoral (Amendment)(No.3) Bill 2014 [PMB] [Mr. Éamon Ó Cuív T.D.]; and

Session B: Detailed Scrutiny of the Prohibition of Micro Plastics Bill 2016 [PMB] [Mr. Seán Sherlock T.D.]

Committee Chairperson, Maria Bailey TD said, “An important feature of last year’s Dáil Reform measures was to allow Committees to scrutinise opposition bills. Tomorrow, we will deal with two such Private Members Bills. The Electoral (Amendment) (No.3) Bill seeks to provide for same-day voting on the islands, as happens on the mainland. The Micro Plastics Bill 2016 is especially relevant for the Committee in its proposals to ensure the public water supply is not contaminated by micro plastics. Engagement on such bills allows for greater cross-party consensus and independent scrutiny of draft legislation.”

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 4 at 9.30am.
