Education Committee to discuss challenges facing island schools

The challenges facing island schools will be on the agenda of the Committee on Education and Skills at its meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, 19 December 2017.

Attending the Committee meeting are:

Representatives from Education and Training Boards Ireland (ETBI); Donegal Education and Training Board; Galway & Roscommon Education and Training Board (GRETB); Gaelscoileanna Teoranta/Gaeloideachais; Coláiste Naomh Eoin, Inis Meáin; Coláiste Naomh Éinne, Inis Mór and Coláíste Ghobnait, Inis Oírr

Committee Chair Fiona O’Loughlin, TD said: “The value of island schools to their communities is very important and they play an essential role in the social and cultural fabric of our island communities. Tomorrow, the Committee will focus on the challenges facing island schools, in particular resources, the pupil/teacher ratio and subject choice. The hearings will help inform a report on the issue that is being compiled by rapporteur Trevor O’Clochartaigh.”

This meeting will take place in Committee Room 4 at 4pm on Tuesday, 19 December. Watch proceedings here.
