Education Committee to discuss continuous assessement for State Examinations

5 Márta 2018, 10:26

The Committee on Education and Skills will focus on continuous assessment for State Examinations at its meeting on Tuesday, 6 March 2018.

Attending the meeting are: representatives from the Association of Secondary Teachers Ireland (ASTI); Teachers' Union of Ireland (TUI); Union of Students in Ireland (USI); and the National Parents' Council Post-Primary.

Committee Chair Fiona O’Loughlin, TD said: “The Committee is holding a hearing arising from submissions from stakeholders on ‘Continuous Assessment for State Examinations’. In particular, the Committee is interested in understanding the benefits and risks of Continuous Assessment (CA) considering that the current ‘high stakes’ model is perceived as contributing to a high level of stress for students when undertaking the Junior and Leaving Cert. We will hear from representatives from Association of Secondary Teachers Ireland (ASTI); Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI); Union of Students in Ireland (USI); and the National Parents’ Council Post-Primary to get their perspectives on the issue.”

This meeting will take place in Committee Room 2 at 4pm on Tuesday, 6 March. Watch proceedings here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
