Justice & Equality Committee to host McAnespie family in Leinster House

21 Márta 2018, 15:28

The Joint Committee on Justice and Equality will host the family of Aidan McAnespie on Thursday 22 March 2018 in the Audio Visual Room in Leinster House.

Committee Chairman Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD said: “The critical focus of the McAnespie family's address will be their request of Government and of the Minister for Justice and Equality to release to them the report  on Aidan's killing on 21st February 1988 compiled by the then Deputy Commissioner of An Garda Síochána, Eugene Crowley, known as the Crowley Report.

"I understand that there are concerns in relation to the confidentiality of some who gave evidence to the inquiry into the shooting but we are asking the Minister if he will undertake to contact each of those to establish if, 30 years later and in very different times, they are now willing to allow the release of their evidence as part of the overall Crowley Report to be given to the McAnespie family in line with their wishes.”

Members of the McAnespie family attending the presentation will include John McAnespie, father of Aidan; his brothers Vincent McAnespie and Seán McAnespie; and his cousin Brian Gormley. The family’s solictor Darragh Mackin will also attend.

The presentation will take place at 11am in AV Room, Leinster House.
