Justice & Equality Committee to meet Garda Síochána as part of hearings on Garda Síochána oversight and accountability

Representatives from An Garda Síochána will attend a meeting of the Committee on Justice & Equality on Wednesday, 25 April as part of its hearings on Garda Síochána oversight and accountability.

Committee Chairman Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD said: “Tomorrow we will resume our examination of our report on Garda Oversight and Accountability 2016 when we meet with representatives of An Garda Síochána. It is an opportunity for Members to discuss the report with senior representatives of An Garda Síochána and look at progress in implementing the committee's recommendations on this subject. Members will also have a chance to raise issues regarding Garda homicide statistics. Concerns have been raised about the accuracy of homicide figures recorded by An Garda Síochána and Committee Members will be keen to examine this issue in greater detail and discuss how the issue is being dealt with by An Garda Síochána.”

The meeting will take place at 9am in Committee Room 2, Leinster House.
