Vol. 131 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cost of Increased Salaries.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the increased levy on the ratepayers in each county, urban and city area, as a result of Circular Letter H.A. 8/51, dated 7th May, 1951, issued by his Department.

The information sought by the Deputy is not of a type normally furnished to my Department by local authorities and is not, therefore, available. It is estimated, however, that the total annual demand by public assistance authorities to meet the increase in salaries authorised by the circular letter amounts to £12,800.

Will the Minister tell Deputy Corry what the levy on the ratepayers will be this year as a result of the slashing of the food subsidies?

Does the Deputy remember the time when he said they were a fraud?
