Written Answers. - Expenditure on Social Welfare Benefits.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the estimated amount of benefit expenditure in the present year and in a full year in respect of (a) unemployment benefit; (b) disability benefit; (c) marriage benefit; (d) maternity benefit; (e) contributory widows' and orphans' pensions; and (f) treatment benefit under the Social Welfare (Insurance) Bill, 1951.

The estimated expenditure in a full year under the different headings is as follows:—

(a) Unemployment benefit

(b) Disability benefit

2,600,000

(c) Marriage benefit

50,000

(d) Maternity benefit

150,000

(e) Widows' and Orphans' (Contributory) pensions

1,250,000

(f) Treatment benefit

500,000

Corresponding figures for the present year have not been estimated.
