Vol. 259 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo School.

28.

asked the Minister for Education what proposals are before his Department for the erection of a new primary school in Newport, County Mayo; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It is proposed to erect two new primary schools in Newport, one for boys and one for girls. A suitable site has been offered for the schools.

Arrangements for the preparation of sketch plans are under review and my Department will communicate within a week or so with the school managers in regard to this matter and also regarding the local contribution to be provided towards the cost of the schools.

Would the Minister state if he has got sites for these two new schools, and, if so, where?

My information is, as I stated in reply to the question, that a suitable site has been offered for the schools.

In Newport?

Where in Newport?

I do not know exactly where, but a suitable site has been offered.

The Minister cannot tell me the exact location?

No, I cannot.

The Minister cannot say from whom the sites were purchased or by whom they were offered?

All I know is that a suitable site is available.

One site for two schools?
