asked the Minister for the Marine in relation to the recent fish kill where more than 300 trout and salmon smolt and fingerlings have been found dead on a two mile stretch of the Ballymahane river which is tributary to the Bandon river, County Cork (a) if the cause of this fish kill has been determined, (b) if the pollution has been identified and (c) the action which has been taken in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The cause of this fish kill has not yet been determined. The pollution officer of the South-Western Regional Fisheries Board has removed dead fish from the area. These are currently being analysed by Cork County Council with a view to establishing the nature of the pollutant.
