Vol. 383 No. 9

Written Answers. - Goresbridge (Kilkenny) School.

125.

asked the Minister for Education, in view of the recent redeployment of two teachers in St. Brigid's secondary school, Goresbridge, County Kilkenny and the present understaffing arrangements, the future intentions she has for the school.

The number of teachers serving in this school exceeded the number of teaching posts warranted for the 1988-89 school year by reference to existing staff regulations, for secondary schools. Accordingly, two teachers were redeployed with effect from the commencement of the 1988-89 school-year, under the terms of the redeployment scheme for lay teachers in catholic secondary schools.

Following consideration of an appeal from the school, concerning difficulties in making adequate provision for certain subjects, my Department authorised payment in respect of part time teaching hours in excess of the school's quota of teaching posts.

As St. Brigid's secondary school, Goresbridge, is privately owned and managed, its future is essentially a question for the management of the school.
