Vol. 550 No. 2

Written Answers. - National Car Test.

Michael Bell

Question:

380 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the reasons the NCT test is not required for vans; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7662/02]

The NCT test applies to vehicles which are designed and constructed primarily for the carriage of passengers and which have a maximum of eight seats, excluding the driver's seat. Vehicles, including vans, that are designed for carrying goods, and for which the appropriate rate of motor tax applicable to goods vehicles is paid, are also liable to periodic roadworthiness tests; testing of these vehicles is carried out by authorised testers appointed by local authorities.
