Vol. 55 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Afforestation in Co. Kilkenny.

asked the Minister for Lands if he has received an offer of three hundred acres of land suitable for planting at Bishopsmountain, Mullinavat, County Kilkenny, and if it is his intention to avail of the offer will he state when he proposes to acquire these lands and bring them within the afforestation scheme.

The Forestry Department have been offered a considerable area of land totalling almost 1,000 acres in the neighbourhood of Mullinavat. The lands are scattered, and are owned by a large number of individuals, and it is necessary to deal with the proposal in sections. The first section which is being dealt with consists of about 500 acres of land in the townlands of Corbally, Dowling and Milltown at Listrolin and comprises lands offered for sale by eight different owners. These lands have been inspected and valued, and it is proposed to issue offers to the various owners concerned at an early date. When the negotiations in respect of these lands have been completed the question of the acquisition of the other lands offered in the Mullinavat area, including those of Bishopsmountain, will be taken up.
