Vol. 59 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Prices Commission.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that as now constituted the Prices Commission is unable to deal expeditiously with the investigation of matters referred to them, and if he is prepared to introduce proposals for establishing the Commission on such basis that a proportion of its members will be required to devote their whole time to the work of the Commission.

I am not aware that the Prices Commission as at present constituted is unable to deal as expeditiously with the investigation of matters referred to them as could be expected having regard to the nature of such investigations. I am not satisfied that existing circumstances warrant the adoption of the suggestion that a proportion of the members of the Prices Commission might be asked to devote their whole time to the work of the Commission. Consideration is at present being given to the question of the amendment of the Control of Prices Act in certain respects having regard to the experience gained from its operation.

In what respect is it proposed to amend the Act?

Wait and see.
