Vol. 104 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hackney Permit in Mayo.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will grant a hackney plate to the most suitable applicant in the Glenhest area, near Newport, County Mayo, as the district, being ten miles from the county town, is in an isolated position in the matter of public service vehicles.

The grant of hackney plates is a matter for the Garda Síochána.

Petrol allowances at the hackney rate are granted only to:—

(a) hackney owners who were engaged in the hackney business on the 1st January, 1941, whose main source of livelihood was derived therefrom and then only in respect of the number of hackney vehicles taxed by them on that date; and

(b) ex-members of the Defence Forces who fulfil certain conditions.

Any application for petrol facilities at the hackney rate from the owner of a hackney vehicle in the Glenhest area will be considered in accordance with these regulations.
