Vol. 113 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment in Balbriggan.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has given consideration to the unemployment caused in the Balbriggan area by reason of the import of foreign textile goods, hosiery, etc.; and, if so, what steps he proposes to take to ensure that the native industry is adequately protected.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. Proposals made by the hosiery industry have been under examination by the Government. The possible reactions of the proposals in other directions have necessitated further investigation which is proceeding.
