Vol. 114 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - British Forces in Six Counties.

asked the Taoiseach if, in view of the statement made in the Stormont Parliament to the effect that extra British forces are being drafted into the Six Counties and of the fact that this action implies that the British Government is giving effect to the assurance by its Prime Minister that the constitutional position of the Six Counties will not be altered, he will make an emphatic protest to the British Government against this gesture of force.

The information at my disposal does not support the suggestion that the strength of the British forces in the six-county area is being increased or that any recent movements of British troops into the area have been of other than a routine character.

In view of the fact that there has been no official denial from Stormont or Westminster of this statement, does the Taoiseach agree that there must be some grounds for it?

Maybe they brought in the Navy.

I have given my reply to the Deputy.
