Vol. 121 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Increase of Milk Products.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the prospects of increasing substantially the percentage of whole milk being converted into dried milk, condensed milk, chocolate crumb, casein and any other manufactured product excluding butter and cheese.

The quantity of milk devoted to the manufacture of milk products other than butter has been steadily increasing during the past few years. In the current year, the quantity of milk scheduled to be used in the manufacture of chocolate crumb and dried milk exceeds by about 50 per cent. the quantity so used in 1949. The Deputy will, no doubt, appreciate that further developments in this direction must largely depend on our ability to sell our surplus of these products in world markets at competitive prices.
