Vol. 123 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the date on which the Land Commission acquired the lands of Dr. T. B. Costello and Mr. T. O'Brien at Brierforth (Isobella Hawe estate), and also the lands of Mr. Rabbitte at Crowehill, Record No. S. 9367, County Galway, and if he will further state the number of sub-lettings made to date and when those lands will be sub-divided amongst the congests in the locality.

Possession was taken of the estates of Costello, O'Brien and Rabbitte on 2nd April, 1948, 2nd February, 1948 and 1st December, 1947, respectively. The lands have since been let each year, regard being had to the needs of the local smallholders. Allotment will take place as soon as a satisfactory scheme has been approved.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will now state what progress has been made towards the acquisition of Mangan's lands at Caherlustrane, County Galway; and, further, the area it is now proposed to acquire.

Proceedings for the acquisition of 28 acres of this estate are nearing the final stage.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is now in a position to indicate what effective steps have been taken to relieve congestion in Kilshanvey and Kilconley, County Galway, and if he will furnish the names of (a) lands about to be acquired, and (b) lands acquired, for the purpose, giving separate particulars under each heading in respect of (i) the period up to 28th February, 1950, and (ii) the period since that date.

Proceedings for the acquisition of lands in Ardour and Pollacorragune were initiated before 28th February, 1950. Proceedings were instituted for the resumption of lands in Toberroe after that date. The proceedings in these cases have not yet been completed.
