Vol. 131 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Restrictions on Seaman.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he is aware that a merchant seaman on board the S.S. "Irish Plane" has been refused permission to land at American ports by the United States authorities, further, if he is aware that this decision appears to have been made because of his political activities and whether, in view of the hardship caused to him and the danger of the loss of his livelihood, he will make representations to the American authorities with a view to removing this restriction.

I am having inquiries made in this matter and as soon as these inquiries are completed, I will communicate with the Deputy. The Deputy will, of course, appreciate that it is a matter for the American authorities to decide who shall be permitted to land in the United States.
