Vol. 134 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Surplus Hides.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, further to his reply to a question of the 26th June last, he is aware that a number of butchers and hide merchants are still unable to dispose of their surplus hides; and, if so, if he will now state if a market will be provided at an early date for these hides in order to ensure that they will not have to be destroyed.

The information available to me indicates that the arrangements for the collection and distribution of domestic hides made by the tanners some time ago, in agreement with my Department, are working satisfactorily and that there is a market for all normal supplies of hides held by butchers and hide merchants.
