Vol. 178 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Advice to Patients on Medicinal Products.

42.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he has sought or been given any assurance by representatives of the medical profession that, where they believe this to be so, they will advise patients that a cheaper home-manufactured medicinal product may be therapeutically as effective as an imported preparation made of identical B.P. components.

I have had no discussions with representatives of the medical profession regarding the use of home manufactured medicinal products.

Does the Minister intend to have any consultation with the members of the medical profession or their representatives in regard to this question? Would the Minister not agree with me that if he asks for their collaboration he may get it? Surely ignoring their existence will not help matters.

The medical advice available to me is through the Department of Health. The medical profession as such has not offered any collaboration with me at all.

Has the Minister asked for any collaboration?
