Vol. 197 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Boot and Shoe Industry.

66.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether the Committee on Industrial Organisation have as yet completed their survey of the boot and shoe industry; and, if so, at what date this survey will be published.

67.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether the Committee on Industrial Organisation have arrived at any estimate of the numbers likely to be rendered redundant in the boot and shoe industry should this country become a member of the European Economic Community; if so, what is this estimate; and what measures, if any, have been decided upon for the redundancy compensation, re-employment, retraining, or reabsorption into other industries of such redundant workers.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I propose to take Questions Nos. 66 and 67 together.

The Committee on Industrial Organisation have completed their survey report on the leather footwear industry and this report will be published in the very near future.

I do not consider it desirable to disclose, in isolation, particular information from this report, or from any of the Committee's reports, in advance of publication of the full report.

Will it be published in a matter of weeks?
