asked the Minister for Local Government what is the attitude of the Government with regard to Recommendation 404 on the setting up of a European Office for International Town Pairings and Exchange which was adopted by the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe on 7th November, 1964; and what action the Government have taken, or contemplate taking, on it.

I understand that the Committee of Deputies of the Council of Europe decided not to act on Recommendation 404 of the Consultative Assembly. In the circumstances it is not at present proposed to take any action in the matter.

The consultative council to which the Minister referred.

It was the Committee of Deputies who decided not to act.
