Vol. 226 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laois-Offaly Garda Stations.

137.

asked the Minister for Justice what proposals he has for the erection of new Garda stations in Laois and Offaly during the coming year; what stage each of the proposals has reached; and when the work will be put in hands.

It is proposed to erect new stations at the following centres in Laois and Offaly: Ballacolla, Ballickmoyler, Birr, Ballybrittas, Geashill, Pallas, Portarlington, Shannonbridge, Wolfhill.

I expect that work will commence at Ballacolla, Ballickmoyler and Birr in the financial year 1967-68.

At this stage, I cannot say when work will commence at the remaining centres. The Commissioners of Public Works have acquired a site and have prepared plans for the new station at Shannonbridge. Sites have been acquired at Ballybrittas and Pallas but plans have not yet been prepared. Sites have not so far been acquired at Geashill, Portarlington and Wolfhill.
