Vol. 226 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Beef Production.

17.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if his attention has been drawn to a statement made in Belfast by the Chairman of a meat packing concern to the effect that a gloomy future for beef producers everywhere was predicted; and if he has studied this statement in relation to the position of beef producers in this country.

I presume the Deputy refers to a recent statement concerning the closure of a Six-County meat factory, due, it was indicated, to the fact that the prediction on which investment in the factory was made had been falsified. The remarks did not apply to the position of meat factories here. All international experts appear to agree that the long-term outlook for beef is good.
